Transportation for Rural People with Disabilities
People with disabilities who live in rural areas report that lack of public transportation systems is one of their most persistent and serious problems. The Association of Programs for Rural Independent Living (APRIL), one of many national organizations working on transportation issues, has released a position paper on rural transit. Among its findings is the news that many rural communities (1,200 counties with a total population of 37 million people) have no public transit.
